Final Fantasy XIII News

After a wait that seemed like years now, new details on Versus has finally surfaced from Famitsu weekly.

-Final Fantasy Versus XIII will appear at TGS 10
-You can go anywhere on world map (excluding the mountain because it is an open field)
-Battles are completely seamless
-The town in trailers is modeled after the Shinjuku city
-Versus will be huge
-Destructible environments
-Cloud movement are done by physical calculations
-No loading (only when changing from big area to other big area)
-People couldn't believe when they saw the destruction of a road in realtime
-Staff motivation is up high and they're happy
-Nomura: Even though the quality is high we aim for more detailed graphics
-Big revelations and the world unveiling of the game at TGS
-The Versus screenshots show a fight with a weaponized Behemoth in a city
-All the screenshots in the interview are captured from the game running in real time.

Square Enix has created an E3 site for the games which will be shown at the event starting June 15. The following are the games currently announced for the event.

- Final Fantasy XIV
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution
- Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
- Kingdom Hearts: RE:Coded
- The 3rd Birthday
- Front Mission Evolved
- Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days
- Dungeon Siege III
- Final Fantasy : The 4 Heroes of Light
- Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
- Necromachina
- Space Invaders Infinity Gene
- Bearsworth Manor

As you can see from this list, there is no Final Fantasy Versus XIII or Final Fantasy Agito XIII on the list. This does not mean that they will not be at the show, but it does probably mean that they will have a very small role at the event, as previously Square Enix has surprised us with an unexpected trailer.

Looks like someone filed a lawsuit about the freezes FFXIII causes.

Daniel Wolf filed a lawsuit about FFXIII causing "severe and widespread damage" to the PS3 since the games release.

The lawsuit states that many consumers who have bought FFXIII has "caused their PS3 consoles to freeze and become totally and permanently inoperable."

The lawsuit also states that "Both Defendants are eminently aware of the damage being cause by their defective products, and have chosen to do nothing about it."

Both Sony and Square Enix pointed fingers at each other about this issue. Sony says that Square Enix produced a faulty game disc and Square Enix said it's a bad console. Both companies didn't offer to cover the cost of repairing the PS3 console.

The class seeks more than $5 million in damages and other financial relief.

Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto revealed on the Japanese Twitter of Square Enix’s Members group that Tetsuya Nomura will appear at E3.

Earlier in the year, Nomura said that Versus XIII might not make it to E3. His appearance gives us some hope that it will show up in some way, shape or form.

Hashimoto also mentioned a meeting for a new project with Director Nomura in their Osaka studio. This studio recently developed Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.

Square Enix held its annual investors meeting in Tokyo this week and has shared supplementary information on its 2009 earnings. In it, they mention that Final Fantasy XIII has topped 5.5 million.

Here are the numbers for each region.

JP - 1.85 million
NA - 1.79 million
EU - 1.77 million
Asia/other - 0.14 million

After a nice long drought of Verses XIII news, finally something has popped up.

CEO Yoichi Wada was asked a question in a investors meeting today in Tokyo about if Verses XIII would be released also on the XB360. The question was asked due to Final Fantasy's XIII Xbox 360 release having helped to extend sales overseas.

"We'll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement."

This shouldn't really be a surprise since Final Fantasy XIII also appeared on the XB360, but the news will definitely upset some PS3 fans.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens next month at this years E3.

In a interview about Star Wars: The Old Republic, Daniel Erickson of Bioware says that Final Fantasy XIII is not an RPG.

Strategy Informer: The main staple of The Old Republic has always been its story, but I'd argue that without good game play to support it, there is a lack of incentive to want to find out that story. I use Final Fantasy 13 as an example here: excellent story, but sometimes the grind or the linear game play made me struggle in wanting to see it through. What are your thoughts on that?

Daniel Erickson: Well, before I address the main point I just want to take a slightly more controversial route: You can put a 'J' in front of it, but it's not an RPG. You don't make any choices, you don't create a character, you don't live your character... I don't know what those are - adventure games maybe? But they're not RPG's.
