In the latest Letter from the Producer, Naoki Yoshida updated players with a little extra news on Phase 2 of the beta test for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The next phase will get underway in April, with more potential players being invited in to the beta test in order to help stress test their server systems as the game gradually builds towards a launchable state. There are currently around 100,000 players questing through Eorzea; although Yoshida-san didn't specify how many more would be added for the next phase, be sure to keep an eye on your email if you've applied!
The other big addition for Phase 2 will be gamepad support, so for those of you who prefer your Final Fantasy games as nature intended - with a controller in your hands - your wish will soon be a reality. I'll leave you with a few screenshots of the work-in-progress Guildhests that are a little further down the line.

Square Enix has released some new screenshots from Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
Kagari of Nova Crystallis translated information from Famitsu:
-Lightning is in contact with a member of a thieves guild – their leader seems to have heard of Lightning. This leader is someone who has appeared in the series and someone who Lightning probably knows.
-The desert that stretches outside the oasis is a danger zone. Here, exploration will take place across the desert.
-In the Dead Dunes, you can undertake quests from the inhabitants of the oasis. Within the oasis you can chat to the inhabitants and listen to their stories, as well as buy items from the shops.
-Items used for battle restoration can be found in treasure chests, as well as purchased through shops in town. Stamina can be restored by visiting an inn or even eating a meal.

The listing states that the game will feature "a multitude of improvements, features and additional content" as well as Wii U gamepad support for a new augmentation called "the Neural Hub". Square Enix has refused to comment on the listing.
This news comes not long after Square Enix registered domains and a trademark for Deus Ex: The Fall as well as a trademark for a new movie, Deus Ex: Human Defiance.
